Hoover Air Cordless 2-in-1 Vacuum Cleaner Review

hoover air cordless 2-in-1 motor brush

The Hoover Air 2-in-1 Cordless Vacuum comes in two versions, BH52100PC and BH52120PC. The vacuums themselves are no different, but the BH52120PC (or “Deluxe”) version comes with an extra filter and motorized brush tool. The motorized brush tool attaches to the removable handheld and improves its effectiveness on carpeted stairs and furniture. The motorized brush makes up for where other cordless vacuums lack since they are awkward to use on stairs and their handhelds can’t agitate the carpet.

The motor protection sensor is a feature that turns off the brush roll in the event of a clog that strains the motor. This great feature prevents permanent damage that can occur if you accidentally tangle something in the brush roll or if hair and strings get wrapped around it.

Battery and Run Time

  • Runtime: 15 minutes
  • Charge Time: 9 hours

This vacuum has a Compact LithiumLife battery which has longer charge time and shorter runtime than the standard Hoover cordless upright vacuums. Smaller bodies and batteries are common in 2-in-1 vacuums, so this is a major downgrade from the 50-minute runtime of many other full-size cordless uprights like the Hoover Air Cordless vacuum.

If you have another Hoover FloorMate or Air Cordless product, you can interchange the LithiumLife batteries between products. This is a bonus if you are looking to get a full-size cordless upright for deeper cleaning and want the extra battery/charger. The long charge time is due to the charger itself. Different vacuums in the FloorMate and Air Cordless product lines come with different chargers and batteries, all of which are interchangeable.

According to Hoover, you can leave the battery on the charger even after it’s charged. For some charge controllers, this isn’t possible, so this isn’t a general rule for all Lithium batteries. It’s best to go by the manufacturer’s instructions.

So here are the different models of batteries and chargers and their charge times,

Pet Hair

Although the suction of this 2-in-1 is nice, it’s important to realize they just aren’t going to handle copious amount of pet hair. Spot cleaning? Sure. Any more than that and you can expect to clean the filter and dust bin multiple times during each use.

Fixing Clogs

The filter and dust bin are very small.

The major areas you need to pay attention to are the hose near the vacuum head and the entrance to the dust bin and filter. The ribbed hose and the turn upward from the vacuum head will cause hair and fibers to collect.

Warranty and Customer Service

The Compact LithiumLife battery also has a 2-year warranty instead of the 5-year warranty of the Extended Runtime LithiumLife battery used in the other Hoover Air Cordless uprights.

Customer Reviews

The strength of the suction of this vacuum leaves a lot to be desired. In theory, the idea of such a versatile vacuum is good, but compromising so much on size takes away from the power of the vacuum.

The runtime is disappointing, but you can expect to cover at least 1000 square feet with a mixture of hardwood and carpet. The more carpet you have, the more you will need to run the brush roll, and this drains the battery more than just running over hardwood. Given the long charge time, if one charge isn’t sufficient, you may find yourself needing to purchase another battery to avoid having to wait 9 hours for another full charge.

The vacuum is lightweight, and the handheld unit is great for getting around windows and countertop corners.

Conclusion

With the addition of the motorized brush, this is possibly the most versatile 2-in-1 on the market. If you have carpeted stairs, the motorized brush is a must have.

Due to the small size of the filter and dust bin, you will need to clean it much more often than a full-size cordless upright. If a handheld isn’t an important feature for you, then it’s best to go for the full-size upright, as they are more realistically able to replace a standard corded vacuum.

As always, it’s important to consider what type of flooring you will mostly be vacuuming. Carpet will drain a cordless vacuum more than hardwood. With the low runtime and high charge time of the Hoover 2-in-1, you will find yourself frustrated if you need to vacuum a large area with this vacuum alone. You can always buy another battery though for around $50.

  1. Always hear of people trying to find out more about the vacuum cleaners good for hardwoods. To be honest, most vacuum cleaners out there are capable of doing the job. Just that they are not “advertised” to do so, does not mean they can’t.
